Where to stay - SANTORINI
+ WALLPAPER, FINANCIAL TIMES
New nine-room hotel with spectacular views, perched above the Caldera on the northwest side of Santorini. The FT writes about Santorini Grace, "It's not the place for lots of sightseeing, rather for lounging and watching the sun sink into the Aegean. Choose the Grace Suite with its own plunge pool." In April 2010, Wallpaper featured Santorini Grace in a two-page article, announcing a well-done expansion.  "An instant hit, Santorini's Grace Hotel has acted quickly to keep the fan base growing."  [Wallpaper]  Doubles with breakfast from 325 Euro (high season).

The FT points out about Santorini, "In Fira, Imerovigli and the northernmost town of Ia, the caldera-view hotels on the cliff side overlook one another. [Nine-room] Astarte Suites, however, is in the middle of so-far-undeveloped countryside, surrounded by flowers. Location and staff are Astarte's best attributes." "There are superb views over village-topped cliffs."   Click here to read The New York Times comments about Astarte Suites.  Get other cool, insider Santorini tips in the attached FT review.

"A boutique hotel hugging the cliffs of Santorini, the biggest island in the Cyclades, Astra Apartments and Suites is the perfect Greek island hideaway. Rooms are all high ceilings, arty ornaments and candles perched on every available surface; add in the giant his ’n’ hers shower, a four-poster bed and an outrageously comfortable sofa in the lounge area and you have a ready-made excuse for permanent room service."  [Mr and Mrs Smith]   Book well in advance during high season.

"Homeric Poems offers a distinctive combination of artistic elements, mod cons, exclusive service, luxury and comfort. The panoramic view and the breathtaking sunsets are among the most divine in the world; drink it in either from your own private verandah, or by the pool bar, sipping a glass of local wine."  [Mr and Mrs Smith]
+ BRITISH HARPERS BAZAAR, TATLER
The chic choice on Santorini for a family (or the choice for a chic family). 45 breezy villas built in the style of traditional Greek village. Plasma TVs, DVD players, music stations. Lots of different places to eat. Many of the two bedroom villas come with private pools and open air jacuzzis. Harper's Bazaar adds about Vedema Resort, "[It is] where the Brangelinas of this world go to hide from the tourists hordes who populate the mild southerly slopes of the island."

"All new, all glam...with 18 villas and suites and every luxury trimming," writes the FT about Mystique on Santorini. The newspaper highlighted Mystique's 3 ultra luxe Spiritual Suites, containing a private gym, Jacuzzi, treadmill, bicycle, fitness machine and spa bed, in addition to a bedroom and terrace with caldera views.  In June 2009, Harper's Bazaar priases Mystique, "The aesthetic is bizarre yet very chic, with baths carved out of volcanic soil and a tangible since of peace. (no kids under 14 allowed)."
