"Go Now! Go Now!" is the title of Elle's November 2008 article introducing this new, romantic beach inn on the north-east coast of the Dominican Republic, two hours by car from Santo Domingo. "Six huge suites have verandas overlooking onto earthly paradise: the Samana Peninsula.... There are waterfall-filled jungles, empty beaches, and French expats running lovely little restaurants in nearby Las Terrenas village." [Elle] Also in November 2008, Elle Decor called The Peninsula House "hot."

In its feature article about the north coast of the Dominican Republic, DailyCandy writes, "Punta Cana may be overrun with resorts and open-bar boozehounds, but the Dominican Republic’s north coast has rolling hills, lush forests, golden beaches, and low-key charm." "To live out your Gilligan’s Island fantasy", "DailyCandy recommends beachside Natura Cabañas, in laid-back Cabarete, just outside Puerto Plata. "Sleep under a thatched-roof bungalow and wake up to mangu (Dominican breakfast of mashed green plantains) and downward dog in the Caribbean breeze." [DailyCandy, Yes We Dominican] Good value rates, check out Natura Cabanas' web site. Get restaurant tips for Cabarete in the attached DailyCandy article.

DailyCandy's luxurious beach hotel pick on the Dominican Republic's exotic north coast. "Situated in megaresort Playa Dorada, the plantation-style boutique hotel is a departure from the all-inclusive norm. If you can tear yourself away from the lobby’s sky-high ceilings, stately arches, and marble everything, you’ll be rewarded with Frette linens, oceanfront massage gazebos, gardens, and a pristine beach. The rooftop infinity pool and on-site spa are close to heaven." [DailyCandy, DailyCandy goes to the Dominican Republic] Read more about Casa Colonial Beach & Spa and other cool hotels near Puerto Plata in the attached DailyCandy article.

DailyCandy says, "The action [on the Dominican Republic's north coast happens in laid-back Cabarete. It’s practically a sin not to try kiteboarding, the parasailing/windsurfing hybrid for which the town is known. "The restos just off the street (Blu, La Casita de Don Alfredo) move their tables outside, so you can eat feet in the sand, ice cold Presidente in hand. Things crank up late night for bachata, merengue, and reggaeton." "Locals also swear by Otra Cosa and its French/Caribbean fare," the restaurant affiliated with our friends' hotel, la Punta Cabarete (see our post).

A DailyCandy restaurant pick for Cabarete, on the Dominican Republic's north coast. "For fancier grub, head to 7:36 PM [Restaurant] . Scantily clad owner Giulia (first name only, please) opens her dreamy backyard every Thursday at, um, 7:36 p.m. and serves two three-course menus, which change weekly. You’ll dine poolside under a hut surrounded by jungle and candlelight. (Call ahead for reservations and directions)." For Cabarate hotel tips, read the attached DailyCandy article.
