Lots of buzz about Hospes Palacio de Bailo, a revamped 17th century palace in Cordoba featuring 53 contemporary guest rooms and suites, pools, ancient mosaics, two restaurants and a glass-floor terrace built atop Roman ruins. Great choice for a "luxury" weekend vacation from the UK, says the FT. Cordoba is world renowned for its outstanding Moorish architecture.

Classic Andalucian cuisine with a modern twist.  On Bodegas Campos' menu, the FT raves about  "Baroque-red, intensely flavoured gazpacho, succulent salads of cod with orange and olive oil, Iberian pork in sweet sauce."   Huge space holding 700 people, but the FT warns "don't let that put you off" due to its "cool dining rooms spread through an astonishing rabbit-warren of adjoining dining rooms." From $80 per person (three course meal with a half-bottle of wine).
