DailyCandy writes in April 2009, "Before it’s too late, you want to see the world’s greatest rain forest firsthand. Set up camp at Amazonat where you can get a riverside or jungle room. But if you want to experience the Amazon as few ever will, head deep into the forest via speedboat. You’ll set up camp and sleep together in hammocks under the jungle canopy, listening to the monkeys roaring overhead. It’s the ultimate adventure, and local travel gurus Dehouche (info@dehouche.com) can hook it up."

New luxury train in Brazil, featured in February 2009 by DailyCandy. "For one week, you’ll explore southeastern Brazil, from jumping Rio de Janeiro (more on that next week) to holy-shit-nature-is-unbelievable Iguaçu Falls. Like a cruise (minus the mall vibe and the masses), everything is included (except the souvenir tanga bikini). Great Brazil Express books great restos and hotels, but you can go off plan and pick your spots — and add days to the beginning or the end."  [DailyCandy]  Learn more about Great Brazil Express in the attached DailyCandy article.

"Organic angels will love Brazil’s sixteen-suite Anavilhanas Jungle Lodge across from one of the world’s largest river archipelago in the fountainhead of the Amazon basin. While there, you’ll hike through the jungle and get schooled on which wild fruits and herbs you can eat.  No, not the red ones."   [DailyCandy]   Learn all about other extreme eco retreats in the attached DailyCandy article.

Hunting-lodge turned guest house in the coastal mountains between Sao Paulo and Rio. Beautiful, extremely isolated setting, stylishly furnished (the picture of the outdoor hot tub looks totally cool.) However, there is no telephone, no mobile connectivity, gas fired freezers and saunas. The FT writes, "There are no truffles on pillows or designer soaps. This is luxury as it should be." Rooms with shared baths from $200 per couple per night. No children under 12 allowed.

The first plush hotel on the island Fernando de Noronha.  It boasts "8 white bright rooms with billowy curtains and bouncy beds, all facing the ocean and with outdoor jungle showers," says Tatler.
+ BRITISH HARPERS BAZAAR
