The FT advises antiquities lovers to check out Martin Randall's 12-day cultural cruises, which stop at ancient Mediterranean destinations along the North African coast. Ian Levine writes for the FT, "I joined one of the first Martin Randall cruises, a 12-day tour of the Roman cities in North Africa, beginning in Tunis, going east to Sousse, Tripoli and Benghazi, and finishing in Crete. The MS Columbus, German-crewed and registered, was beautifully appointed, with an efficient crew. We had excellent food and wine, though in Libya two policemen were stationed on board to ensure that we drank no alcohol while we were docked there. ... Deliberately, the company fills only half the cabins, so there were 236 of us on a ship that could carry 500. This meant an uncrowded vessel and a single service for all meals and lectures." Read more in the attached, May 2009 Financial Times article, On a cruise to Libya. 12-day autumn cruises from 2,600 pounds.
