Posh new hotel by Frank Gehry, located an hour from Bilbao. Tatler raved about the Hotel Marques de Riscal's restaurant and its Michelin-starred chef. Prior to the hotel's opening, Vogue pointed out the miles of unspoilt scenery in the area explorable by mountain bike, horseback, or on foot. Vanity Fair seemed to question its design (Guggenheim Bilbao, Part II) but later raved about the hotel's spa. Town & Country agreed that the spa was a real gem and said, "you can bathe in water with red-wine extracts and receive a honey-and-wine wrap, a massage and a body scrub using grape seeds and brown sugar." Bazaar also picked Hotel Marques de Riscal as a spa destination.

Town & Country says, "Some gourmets arrive by helicopter to dine at Etxebarri." Locals hang out at the bar downstairs, outstanding Basque food, simple, seasonal, entirely organic, is served upstairs, eggs from the property, chorizo made from chef Victor Arguinzoniz's own pigs. All set in a charming renovated farmhouse with wood beams. Divine!
