Fun, funky hotel behind an unremarkable facade in the heart of Athens. Popular with the media/fashion crowd. 1960s Mini Coopers were converted into check-in desks. Its 76 rooms were decorated by emerging designers in "haute bohemian" style. There's no pool, no outside space but at 150 Euro a night, it's a good deal. Check out the web site.

The FT writes, "But where the old place slumbered in stygian gloom, now there are vast glass windows, this is the new Athens, all about seeing and being seen. The society matrons are still there...but the coffee of choice is cappuccino, not the silty Greek elleniko. The dais at the back remains the place to sit, but from 12:30 pm, you have to order food."
