La Mamounia, a cool hotel in Marrakesh
The legendary La Mamounia has been given a hip overhaul by Jacques Garcia and won the praises of Vogue, the FT and Vanity Fair in the summer of 2009. New additions include a lakesize swimming pool and a 27,000 square-foot spa. "What is Garcia most proud of, 'The fact that it looks like I didn't touch a thing, whereas actually I reinvented everything.'" [Vogue] Prior to the hotel's renovation, travel guru Sophy Roberts remarked in the FT that La Mamounia was one of her least favourite hotels in the world.... "This winter [2009], however, it was all change. Stunningly reinvented by that master of hotel design, French architect Jacques Garcia, it was looking sultry, sexy and, wonderfully, still Moroccan, with moody bars, lounges and restaurants in velvets, leathers, browns and purples."
